Historic Barn Dormer Replacement

Schnitzhofer & Associates, LLC provided structural evaluation and assessment services for the existing roof framing at a beautiful historic barn located in Staunton, VA. As part of the re-roofing and dormer replacement project by Mr. Jessie O’Brien and O’Brien Enterprises, S&A performed a structural analysis of the existing wood framing, in the interest of determining the need for reinforcement, as a result of replacement of the existing roof dormers.

Industrial Catwalk Framing:
Pharmaceutical Facility

With an aggressive schedule, extremely tight industrial retrofit constraints, and an incredibly precise design required, Schnitzhofer & Associates was called upon to complete the evaluation of the existing foundation and structural steel design for the two catwalk framing systems surrounding a 3000 gallon mixing tank and a 300 gallon fermenter tank within a fully operational pharmaceutical facility located in Salem, VA.

The Historic Markwood House

Mount Sidney, Virginia
Construction was recently completed on the brick mortar repair, metal roof replacement and various structural repair/reinforcements of the Historic Markwood House. As the Structural Engineer of Record for the renovation, Mr. Schnitzhofer was responsible for the design of the floor framing reinforcement, foundation wall stabilization, and the faux chimney support concealed within the roof framing. While Kevin Armstrong Construction successfully completed the work, Schnitzhofer & Associates, LLC managed the construction phase of the renovations, monitoring the repairs, providing field inspections for periodic reporting to the property owner. Odd Fellows Building:
Structural Evaluation Study

The beautiful historic Odd Fellows Building is located in the downtown Main Street area of Covington, VA. Schnitzhofer & Associates, LLC completed the structural evaluation study of the multi-level historic structure – in the interest of determining the adequacy of the existing floor framing to carry the floor loads as a result of the proposed renovations. Adding to the complexity of the structural analysis was the discovery of an existing built up steel beam, present at the main level ceiling area.

One East Beverley Street:
Structural Evaluation Study

The beautiful historic One East Beverley is certainly a gem of a building, situated in the heart of historic downtown Staunton, VA. Schnitzhofer & Associates, LLC are proud to have completed the structural evaluation study of the multi-level historic structure – in the interest of determining the adequacy of the existing floor and roof framing to carry the loads resulting from the proposed renovations. Through Schnitzhofer & Associates’ vast vintage structural library, we were able to determine the proper designation for each of the historic structural sections currently in place within the building, allowing for an accurate assessment of each existing historic framing member, primary or otherwise. This allowed our client a proper assessment of the structure with respect to the building material specifications and construction methods utilized at the time the building was built.

Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Home:
Fire Damage Assessment and Repair

The Reynolds Hamrick Funeral home located in Waynesboro, Virginia suffered damage as a result of fire. Schnitzhofer & Associates, LLC visited the site to conduct the necessary structural assessment of the damage, in the interest of determining the structural adequacy of the remaining structural elements near the location in which the fire occurred. Through careful documentation of what structural elements remained in place after the fire, we were able to develop an efficient structural repair plan for our client, as well as the building owner.

The Historic Southern Inn:
Fire Damage Front Façade Stability Assessment

On July 20, 2010, the historic Southern Inn restaurant located in Lexington, Virginia suffered severe damage as a result of an overnight fire. Schnitzhofer & Associates, LLC worked closely with Skip Ravenhorst to provide the necessary structural assessment of the damaged structure, in the interest of determining the structural adequacy of the front façade to support it’s own weight, without the lateral stability provided by the interior floor connections. Concern lay with the possibility of the front façade detaching from the building, creating a public hazard on the street surface below. Schnitzhofer & Associates, LLC, provided structural analysis of the damaged structure at the front façade and provided details and directions for the installation of a carefully designed steel bracket system, eliminating the potential for wall collapse.
